New Delhi, November 18
In response to the ongoing violence between two communities in Manipur, the Centre has decided to send an additional 50 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) companies, totaling more than 5,000 personnel, to the state. The move comes after a second review meeting held by Union Home Minister Amit Shah with top ministry and intelligence officials in New Delhi on Monday, following protests and violent incidents triggered by the discovery of six bodies.
The meeting was attended by Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau director Tapan Deka, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and other senior officials. The decision follows the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) dispatching 20 additional CAPF companies—15 from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and five from the Border Security Force (BSF)—to Jiribam district, where violence first erupted.
Shah, who recently returned from election campaigns in Maharashtra, conducted an initial assessment of the situation on Sunday. The MHA highlighted escalating violence and fatalities caused by clashes between armed groups from opposing communities. In response, the MHA announced the transfer of several key cases to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to ensure thorough investigation. Security forces have been directed to restore peace and take strict action against individuals fueling unrest. The ministry has also urged the public to maintain calm, avoid spreading rumors, and cooperate with efforts to maintain order.
