Punjab’s Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Amritsar has arrested two operatives connected to the Portugal-based Mannu Ghanshampuria gang and uncovered their links to major USA-based criminals, Balwinder Singh, alias Doni Bal, and Prabhdeep Singh, alias Prabh Dasuwal, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Friday.

The arrested individuals, identified as Aditya Kapoor alias Makhan from Amritsar and Ravinder Singh from Gurdaspur and four firearms, including a 9MM Glock pistol, two foreign-made .30 bore pistols, and a .32 bore pistol, along with five magazines and 14 live cartridges were recovered from their possession. Police also seized their motorcycle.

Sharing details, DGP Yadav said that CI teams had set up a special checkpoint at Mehta Road near Amritsar’s cattle market, where the suspects were apprehended. The investigation shows that Kapoor, who has 12 criminal cases against him, was operating on orders from Doni Bal and Prabh Dasuwal, both of whom are close associates of Mannu Ghanshampuria, the brother of gangster Gopi Ghanshampuria.

DGP Yadav said that these gangs are known rivals of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria crime syndicate. Preliminary evidence indicates that the detainees received a weapon consignment arranged by Doni Bal and Mannu Ghanshampuria to carry out serious crimes in the state. Further investigations are underway to trace other possible connections, and an FIR has been filed under the Arms Act at Police Station SSOC, Amritsar, the DGP said.
