The Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) Canada has highlighted the alarming rise in attacks on Hindu temples across Canada, drawing attention to recent incidents over the Diwali weekend that sparked significant protests in Brampton. Members of the Canadian Hindu community today gathered in Brampton and demanded action against the increasingly brazen attacks on Hindu Temples.

Videos shared by journalists on their social media platforms show chants of “Khalistan Murdabad” echoing across Canada as Canadians of Indian origin took to the streets to protest against the recent attack on a Hindu temple. The demonstration highlighted the community’s unity in standing against Khalistani violence and extremism. Participants voiced their support with calls of “Jai Shri Ram,” emphasizing solidarity and resilience.

A local journalist shared on X that they attended a gathering at the Hindu Sabha Mandir, where thousands of individuals from the Hindu community, alongside Sikhs, Jews, Christians, and Iranians, united to show their support following the recent Khalistani attack on the temple and the perceived inaction of Peel Police. The atmosphere throughout the night was uplifting and filled with passion, reflecting the community’s resilience and solidarity.

While sharing details on social media platform X previously known as Twitter, CoHNA expressed concern over the involvement of police in actions perceived as biased against Hindus, potentially explaining why repeated temple attacks have seen few, if any, prosecutions. They pointed to cases of police response where Hindu worshippers defending their places of worship were treated differently compared to provocations from pro-Khalistani groups. “This disparity was evident during recent incidents in Surrey, where a minor was arrested amid clashes,” the CoHNA said.

Reports note that Hindu temples have increasingly been targets of vandalism and desecration in recent years. While many incidents go unreported to avoid further targeting, CoHNA urged Canadian authorities to take robust measures to ensure the safety of these religious sites and hold perpetrators accountable.

Meanwhile,  the Peel Regional Police have suspended an officer identified in videos related to a protest that escalated into violence at a Hindu temple in Brampton on Sunday. “We are aware of a video circulating on social media which shows an off-duty Peel police officer involved in a demonstration,” said spokesperson Richard Chin.

Chin noted that the officer had been suspended under the Community Safety and Policing Act, adding, “We are investigating the circumstances in totality depicted in the video and are unable to provide further information until such time that this investigation is complete,” the news outlet Toronto Sun reported.
