New Delhi, October 29

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that India stands before the world as a flourishing and strong nation, attributing this progress to the unification of over 550 princely states, a feat achieved through the strong will and decisive actions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Speaking at the ‘Run for Unity’ event in New Delhi, organised to commemorate Patel’s birth anniversary on October 31, Shah emphasized that Patel’s leadership laid the foundation for India’s current stature as a unified and robust nation.

“Today, India is on the path to becoming a leader in every field, thanks to Sardar Patel’s vision,” he said. Shah said that the initiative to organise the ‘Run for Unity’ was set in motion by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 to encourage a pledge for national unity and integrity. He remarked that this event has become a national commitment, reinforcing the dedication to serve the nation.

The Home Minister also highlighted Modi’s pledge to develop India into a leading nation by 2047, emphasizing the importance of unity in achieving this goal. He lamented that Patel was overlooked for years and denied the Bharat Ratna award, but acknowledged Modi for keeping Patel’s legacy alive by erecting the world’s tallest statue in Kevadia, Gujarat. Shah asserted that Patel’s vision and messages have been concretely realized through Modi’s leadership.

Several dignitaries, including Union Cabinet Ministers and Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena, attended the event.
