Speaking at Diwali celebrations held at the White House on Monday, U.S. President Joe Biden honored the South Asian American community, highlighting their contributions as integral to American life. “The South Asian American community has enriched every part of American life,” Biden said, noting the group’s dynamic growth and engagement on a global scale. “Yours is the fastest-growing and most engaged community in the world. Now, Diwali is celebrated openly and proudly in the White House.”
In a reflective address, Biden underscored the importance of the moment, describing it as an “inflection point” for the country. He encouraged attendees to hold fast to the ‘Idea of America,’ a principle he reminded should not be taken for granted.
