Punjab’s government is focused on ensuring a streamlined paddy procurement season for 2024-25, implementing efficient systems for procurement, lifting, and payment across state mandis, Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said on Monday. In a video conference with District Food Supply Controllers (DFSCs) and senior officials, Kataruchak said that the state has already received 59.8 million metric tonnes (MT) of paddy, with 54.9 MT successfully procured.
So far, 23.3 MT of paddy has been lifted, with a record 4.13 MT moved in a single day on October 27. The state has also credited ₹7640.55 crore to farmers’ accounts, aiming to provide timely funds for Diwali celebrations. The Minister urged district officials to expedite processes, expressing confidence in a successful season benefiting farmers, arhtiyas, millers, and laborers alike.
