NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 25
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday emphasised that India and Germany, as leading global economies, could jointly become a force for “global good”. Speaking at the Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business in New Delhi, Modi lauded Germany’s commitment to their partnership and plans to raise skilled Indian workforce visas from 20,000 to 90,000 annually.
“The collaboration demonstrates Germany’s trust in India’s skilled workforce,” Modi said, highlighting the event’s return to India after a 12-year hiatus and Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s fourth visit to the country. The conference coincides with the 25th anniversary of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, which Modi said would deepen further in the coming decades.
Modi pointed to the two nations’ $30 billion trade, calling India a prime location for diversification and risk mitigation, a global trade and manufacturing hub. “This is the opportune time to ‘Make in India, for the world,'” he said, inviting German businesses to invest.
As German naval ships called at the port in Goa, Modi underscored the Indo-Pacific region’s importance for stability, with the conference fostering not only trade but also trust and transparency.
Modi said India’s strong policy framework, supported by initiatives in AI, semiconductors, green hydrogen, and quantum technology. “Aspirational India and AI will propel us forward,” he stated, inviting Germany to collaborate in India’s expanding green hydrogen ecosystem.
Modi concluded by urging German companies to explore investment in India’s digital and physical infrastructure, citing the partnership’s potential to uplift the Indo-Pacific region and contribute globally.
