NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 24
Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved two railway projects with a total cost of ₹6,798 crore, aimed at enhancing connectivity and socio-economic growth in key regions. The projects include the doubling of the 256 km Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga-Muzaffarpur section, improving links to Nepal, Northeast India, and border areas. Besides it, a new 57 km rail line will be built between Errupalem and Namburu, passing through Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
These infrastructure developments, covering eight districts across three states—Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Bihar—will add 313 km to India’s railway network. The new line will connect 168 villages and serve a population of 12 lakh, while the multi-tracking project will benefit 388 villages and 9 lakh people.
Crucially, these projects aim to ease transportation of key commodities, increase freight capacity by 31 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), and reduce CO2 emissions by 168 crore kg, equivalent to planting 7 crore trees. The initiatives are part of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, promoting seamless connectivity and self-reliance (Atmanirbhar) in the region.
