Modi, Xi hold bilateral talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping engaged in bilateral talks on Wednesday during the BRICS Summit in Russia, emphasizing the importance of their dialogue for global peace. Modi underscored that mutual trust and respect are foundational to India-China relations.

On the eve of the talks, China announced an agreement with India to resolve military tensions in eastern Ladakh. Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, confirmed that both nations have maintained close communication through diplomatic and military channels, successfully addressing outstanding issues.

The agreement aims to resume patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), facilitating disengagement in disputed border areas. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri elaborated on recent diplomatic discussions during a press conference on October 21, highlighting the collaborative efforts that led to the agreement, which seeks to resolve challenges that have persisted since 2020.
