Navratri Begins with Worship of Maa Shailputri

Shardiya Navratri, the sacred Hindu festival, began today with the worship of Maa Shailputri, the first manifestation of Goddess Durga. Maa Shailputri, whose name ‘Shail’ refers to the Himalayas, is revered as the daughter of Parvataraja Himalaya and is also known as Goddess Parvati.She is the consort of Lord Shiva, and her vehicle is the bull, Vrishabha, earning her the name Vrishbharudha. The festival marks the start of nine days of devotion to different forms of the goddess, the news outlet India Today reported.

Navratri, a Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Durga, is a nine-day celebration that fosters community unity through devotion and joy. This festive period starts today on Thursday  and will conclude on October 12. Each day of navratri is associated with a colour and holds its own significance and spiritual meaning, according to the news outlet.
