In a proactive measure to tackle the rising cases of diarrhoea, the UT health department in Chandigarh has initiated a two-month “Stop Diarrhoea” campaign. The campaign, aimed at curbing the spread of this life-threatening disease, commenced on Monday.
The campaign was inaugurated by UT Health Secretary Ajay Chagti, in the presence of Dr. Suman Singh, Director of Health Services and NHM Director, along with other senior health department officials, at the paediatrics OPD of GMSH, Sector 16. Dr. Singh announced, “The drive will run from July 1 to August 31.”
As part of the campaign, co-packages of ORS (Oral Rehydration Salts) and zinc were distributed to children under five years old. Demonstrations on the correct methods of hand washing and ORS preparation were held at the newly established ORS and zinc corner at the hospital.
Chagti emphasized the importance of commitment and dedication to achieve the goal of zero childhood deaths due to seasonal diseases. Health department officials highlighted that training has already been provided to healthcare personnel in civil hospitals and dispensaries to prevent infections. They identified water leakages and sewage contamination as major contributors to water-borne diseases, including diarrhoea.
