Tata Group is set to establish a major semiconductor plant in Kerala, with Malappuram district under consideration for a key role in the Rs 91,000 crore project. The facility, planned for Ozhur near Tanur, is part of a broader effort that includes a primary manufacturing site in Gujarat, the news outlet Trak.in reported. This move aims to position Kerala as a significant player in India’s semiconductor industry and propel the state’s industrial landscape forward. Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran confirmed these plans, and the group is also developing another facility in Assam.

The Kerala government, led by Industries Minister P. Rajeev, is currently negotiating with Tata Group to finalize the plant’s setup. The semiconductor facility aligns with India’s goal of self-reliance in high-tech manufacturing. Tata Group has partnered with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation to drive the project, which is expected to generate around 100,000 jobs in fields like artificial intelligence and advanced technologies, the news outlet said. However, local authorities in Ozhur are still awaiting formal communication regarding the plant.
