Cultural Values Key to Viksit Bharat: Prof. M M Goel

“Development cannot be measured solely by economic progress but must be deeply rooted in the values, traditions, and philosophies that shape India’s ethos,” said Prof. Madan Mohan Goel, a three-time Vice-Chancellor, including at the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) in Sriperumbudur, an Institute of National Importance, and a proponent of the Needonomics School of Thought. Speaking at an extension lecture titled “Relevance of Cultural Values for Viksit Bharat,” organised by the Hindi Department of Kurukshetra University, Prof. Goel emphasized that India’s rich cultural heritage—characterized by diversity, spirituality, and moral principles—is essential for creating a prosperous and sustainable Viksit Bharat.

In her welcome address, Professor Puspa Rani, Chairperson and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and  Languages, acknowledged Prof. Goel’s contributions with a citation honoring his achievements. Prof. Goel underscored that achieving a developed India necessitates a balance between economic growth, ethical governance, social justice, and the tenets of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which translates to “the world is one family.” He asserted that addressing unemployment through education and skill development is crucial for fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.

Moreover, Prof. Goel highlighted the need to integrate cultural values such as compassion, integrity, and social responsibility, drawing on the teachings of Indian thinkers like Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore, and Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, to guide future generations.
