OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes artificial intelligence will revolutionize human life in ways that would seem like magic to previous generations. In his blog post, The Intelligent Age, Altman said AI will equip people with tools to solve complex problems and create new structures beyond current capabilities. “Our children will be able to do things we can’t,” he noted, envisioning a future where everyone has access to personal teams of experts and children are taught by virtual tutors in any subject or language.
Altman predicted that AI-driven advancements would lead to unprecedented prosperity. “In the future, everyone’s lives can be better than anyone’s life is now,” he wrote, though he acknowledged that wealth alone does not guarantee happiness.
Addressing concerns about AI’s impact on employment, Altman admitted that the technology will reshape labor markets, but most jobs will evolve more gradually than anticipated. He expressed confidence that AI will allow people to amplify their abilities and focus on creating value in ways that may not resemble traditional jobs today.
Reflecting on historical shifts in work, Altman compared the present to a lamplighter viewing modern society, saying the future’s prosperity would seem equally unimaginable. Despite inevitable changes, Altman remains optimistic about the bright future AI will bring.
