Tirupati laddu row: FSSAI serves notice to firm supplying ‘adulterated’ ghee

Following the random inspection of ghee samples that were found to be adulterated, the food safety regulator has issued a show-cause notice to a company supplying ghee to the Tirumala temple. “The samples from this company failed the quality test. The FSSAI has issued a show-cause notice,” said the senior health ministry official, the news outlet Times of India reported.

Earlier, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda had communicated with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu regarding the Tirupati laddu issue and sought a report. Union Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare has assured that additional measures to monitor market quality will be considered after receiving the FSSAI report, the news outlet reported. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan performed a ‘purification ritual’ today at Kanaka Durga Temple as part of his 11-day ‘Prayashchitta Diksha’ over the alleged use of adulterated ghee in Tirumala’s Laddu Prasadam, according to media reports.
