Praveen Kumar Strikes Gold in High Jump at 2024 Paris Paralympics

The 21-year-old athlete Praveen Kumar won gold in the Men’s High Jump T64 event at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. He won gold by clearing 2.08 meters, beating his personal best, leaving behind USA’s Derek Loccident, who cleared 2.06 meters and won a silver.

This was the second consecutive Paralympic win for Praveen Kumar, as he had previously won silver at the Tokyo Paralympic Games with his personal best of 2.07 meters. Born with a shorter leg, Praveen competed in the T44 classification, which is designated for athletes with lower leg movement affected to a low or moderate degree.

Counting this win, India’s tally at the Paris Paralympics now stands at 27 medals: six gold, nine silver, and 12 bronze.
