Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Brunei on Tuesday, marking the start of his two-nation tour, which will also include Singapore. He is the first Indian Prime Minister to make an official bilateral visit to Brunei. “As we celebrate the 40 years of our diplomatic relations, I look forward to my meetings with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other esteemed members of the Royal family to advance our historical relationship to new heights,” Prime Minister said in his departure statement.
“ From Brunei, I will travel to Singapore on September 4. I look forward to the opportunity to meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. I will also meet with leaders of the Singapore’s vibrant business community,” said the Prime Minister.
Modi emphasized that his discussions in Singapore will focus on deepening the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, particularly in advanced manufacturing, digitalization, and sustainable development. He highlighted the importance of both Brunei and Singapore as key partners in India’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific Vision, expressing confidence that his visits will further strengthen India’s ties with Brunei, Singapore, and the broader ASEAN region.
