Chandigarh, August 29

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a show-cause notice to the Haryana BJP state president for violating its guidelines prohibiting the involvement of children in election-related activities and campaigns, The Tribune reported.

The ECI has asked the Haryana BJP chief to file a reply by August 29. The notice was issued following a tweet dated August 27 from the official Haryana BJP account on X (formerly Twitter), which included video clips of state Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini interacting with children during the Assembly election campaign. The footage shows the Chief Minister taking selfies and engaging with children.

The notice stated, “The ECI takes serious note of the post on X by the BJP Haryana account that features a child in the campaign video, which violates the ECI guidelines against using children in election-related activities.” The notice also mentioned that the Chief Electoral Officer of Haryana had been instructed to take immediate corrective action.
