Bollywood actress and BJP MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, has sparked outrage among farmers and agricultural organisations by comparing the farmers’ protest to the Bangladesh unrest. “Her remarks have been widely condemned as “derogatory” and an attempt to defame the farmers, leading to demands for an unconditional apology,” reported The Tribune.
“It’s not surprising that the MP is making such statements, as it aligns with the BJP’s long-standing policy to insult, denigrate, and discredit the historic farmers’ movement at the borders of Delhi,” said Inderjit Singh, a senior leader of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM).
In addition to SKM, Kangana’s statement was also condemned by the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS). “It is extremely shameful, baseless, and false to argue that they tarnish the image of the historic farmers’ movement that took place on the Delhi borders. The MP should either apologise or face protests across the state,” said AIKS state general secretary Sumit Dalal.
