Chandigarh, August 26
The chief secretaries and finance secretaries from 17 states and union territories, including Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, are set to appear in person before the Supreme Court on Tuesday. This summons comes after their failure to clear the arrears of revised salary and pension for judicial officers as per the recommendations of the Second National Judicial Pay Commission (SNJPC), the news outlet The Tribune reported. On August 22, a three-judge Bench led by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud ordered these officials to explain the non-implementation of the SNJPC’s recommendations. The order was issued following a submission by amicus curiae K Paramesha, who reported that 17 states and UTs have yet to comply with various court orders, including those issued last month, the news outlet said.
