Sanjay Roy, the primary suspect in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, has confessed to the crime during interrogation, as per CBI sources. Roy detailed his movements on the night of the crime, admitting to visiting two red-light districts in Kolkata but not engaging in sexual activity, the news outlet India Today reported. He also confessed to molesting a woman on the street, an act captured by surveillance camera. Additionally, Roy revealed that he had a video call with his girlfriend during which he requested and received nude photos. Meanwhile, The Times of India reported that Roy gave misleading responses which were flagged by the polygraph machine.
According to India Today, Roy initially visited RG Kar Hospital with a friend on August 8 to check on the friend’s brother, who was admitted there. After leaving the hospital, they bought alcohol and drank on the road before heading to Sonagachi, a red-light area in north Kolkata. Unsuccessful there, they proceeded to Chetla, another red-light area in south Kolkata. On the way, they molested a woman on the street. While in Chetla, Roy’s friend had sex with a woman while Roy stayed outside, engaged in a video call with his girlfriend.
After this, Roy and his friend returned to RG Kar Hospital. Roy went to the trauma center on the fourth floor and was later seen on CCTV at 4:03 AM entering the corridor near the seminar hall on the third floor. He entered the seminar hall where the victim was resting, strangled her, and sexually assaulted her. Following the crime, Roy went to the home of his friend Anupam Dutta, a Kolkata Police officer, the news outlet further said.
The CBI’s psychoanalytic profile of Roy indicated a severe addiction to pornography, with numerous pornographic clips found on his phone. The victim suffered 25 external and internal injuries and was smothered to death.
