Investigators have released CCTV footage related to the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The footage shows the accused, Sanjoy Roy, entering the hospital shortly after midnight on August 9. The CCTV footage reveals a Bluetooth earphone around Roy’s neck. The discovery of a Bluetooth device near the trainee doctor’s body and the CCTV evidence led to the arrest of Sanjoy Roy, who was seen entering the seminar hall where the body was later found, according to the media reports.

Sanjoy Roy, 33, joined the Kolkata Police as a civic volunteer in 2019. Police have alleged that Roy, a trained boxer, was married at least four times and had a reputation as a “womaniser.” Over the years, he reportedly developed close ties with senior police officers, leading to his assignment at the Kolkata Police Welfare Board and a posting at the police outpost at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Hindustan Times reported.

According to sources cited by NDTV, CCTV footage captured Roy entering the hospital at 1:03 am. During interrogation, the police presented him with the CCTV evidence, after which Roy allegedly confessed to the crime.  The footage also shows Roy leering at the victim and four other junior doctors in the hospital’s chest ward. An unnamed source told News18 that “the CCTV footage captures Roy glaring towards them.

The victim had gone to the seminar hall at 1 am on August 9 to rest. She spoke with a junior doctor at 2:30 am before returning to sleep. She was found dead the next morning.

Meanwhile,  a polygraph test has begun for Sanjoy Roy and six others, including the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh. The test on Sanjoy Roy is being conducted in the prison where he is lodged. The remaining six individuals, including Ghosh, four doctors who were on duty during the night of the incident, and a civil volunteer, will undergo the test at the agency’s office, officials confirmed, as per the media reports.
