Aman Sehrawat shone brightest as the Indian wrestler dominated Puerto Rico’s Darien Toi Cruz to clinch the bronze medal in the Men’s 57kg Freestyle event at the Paris Olympics on Friday.

“Aman’s determination and grit, though, would not be broken, as the Indian would fight back harder every time he was taken down to keep on reclaiming his lead as he stood with a 10-5 lead with a little over a minute to go,” reported News18.

Aman Sehrawat was able to avoid the fate of Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified for being 100 grams over her weight category. He was able to do so by losing over 4.6 kg in 10 hours.

“The process began with a one-and-a-half-hour mat session during which the two senior coaches engaged him in standing wrestling. This was followed by a one-hour hot-bath session. At 30 minutes past midnight, he hit the gym for an hour-long nonstop run on the treadmill. He was then given a 30-minute break, followed by five sessions of a 5-minute sauna bath,” reported Hindustan Times.

By 4:30 am, his weight had reduced down to 56.9 kilos, which was 100 grams less than the required limit, which was indeed a sigh of relief for the coach.

“I watched videos of wrestling bouts the whole night. We kept checking his weight every hour. We didn’t sleep the whole night, not even during the day,” said Aman’s coach, Dahiya. “Weight cutting is routine and normal for us, but there was tension, a lot of tension due to what happened the other day (with Vinesh). We could not let slip another medal,” he added.
