Neeraj Chopra delivered the second-best throw of his career, reaching 89.45m in the men’s javelin final at the Paris Olympics on Thursday. Chopra, was injured just months ahead of the competition. Despite his impressive performance, it wasn’t enough to secure the gold. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem set a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97m, earning his country’s first-ever track and field gold medal, according to India Today. Chopra secured an Olympic silver, adding to his illustrious collection of trophies, with just one legal throw out of six attempts. Although it wasn’t his best day in competition, he still made history by winning India’s first silver medal at the Paris Olympics.

The Tokyo Olympic champion also became only the fifth Indian athlete to win multiple Olympic medals, news the outlet reported.

Moments after India’s ‘Golden Boy’ made history on the world stage, Neeraj Chopra’s mother, Saroj Devi, revealed that her son had battled an injury to secure his place on the podium in Paris, according to The Hindustan Times.

The report also mentioned that Neeraj’s grandfather, Dharm Singh Chopra, expressed pride in his grandson’s efforts to boost India’s medal count at the Paris Games. Following Neeraj’s silver medal victory, the Chopra family celebrated by distributing sweets. “He has given his best performance and won silver, adding one more medal for the country,” Neeraj’s grandfather remarked.
