Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday announced that wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified from her gold medal bout in the women’s 50 kg category at the Paris Olympics due to a failed second weigh-in, will still receive the honors, rewards, and facilities same as given to an Olympic silver medalist.
Besides it, many wrestlers shared their views in support of Phogat on social media platforms. In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), wrestler Bajrang Punia voiced his support for Phogat, writing, “Vinesh, aap haari nahi, haaraaya gaya hai (Vinesh, you haven’t lost; you were defeated). For us, you will always be a winner. You are not just India’s daughter but also its pride.”
Geeta Phogat, another celebrated wrestler, also took to X to express her admiration and sorrow. “Sister, we will always be indebted to you for what you’ve done for the country. Your passion and struggle will be remembered for centuries. You are a role model for all girls. It is very sad for you and the entire family to say goodbye to wrestling like this—for the entire country,” she wrote.
In her post on X Sakshi malik wrote “Vinesh, you have not lost, every daughter for whom you fought and won has lost.This is the defeat of entire India.The country is with you. Salute to his struggle and passion as a player.”
“When Vinesh returns back, I along with Bajrang Punia and Babita, will make her understand and prepare her for the 2028 Olympics,” Mahavir Phogat.
