India and Vietnam sign multiple MoUs to strengthen bilateral relations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held extensive talks on Thursday with his Vietnamese counterpart, Pham Minh Chinh, to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Vietnam. According to the Ministry of External Affairs official statement both nations have approved a plan of action for implementing their strategic partnership from 2024 to 2028. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed for cooperation in customs capacity building between India’s Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs and the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

The Ministry of External Affairs further said that further MoU was signed between the Central Agricultural University in Imphal, Manipur, and the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Hanoi for cooperation in agricultural research and education. Another MoU was signed between the Ministry of Justice of Vietnam and India’s Ministry of Law and Justice for legal cooperation, as well as an agreement between Prasar Bharati, New Delhi, and the Voice of Vietnam (VoV) for cooperation in radio and television.

Giving details, the Minister informed that the two Dollar Credit Line Agreements, amounting to USD 300 million, were approved between Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance and the Export-Import Bank of India. Additionally, a Letter of Intent was signed for the conservation and restoration of F Block in My Son, Quang Nam Province, Vietnam.

An MoU was also signed between the Traditional Medicine Administration of Vietnam’s Ministry of Health and India’s National Medicinal Plants Board for cooperation in medicinal plants. Moreover, an MoU was signed between Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways for the development of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Gujarat, the Ministry said.
