Manu Bhaker’s Historic Bronze Breaks India’s 12-Year Shooting Drought

Manu Bhaker opened India’s medal account in the Paris Olympics, ending a 12-year wait for a shooting medal at the Games.Korea’s Oh Ye Jin won gold with a total of 243.2, setting a new Olympic record, while Kim Yeji secured silver with a score of 241.3 and Manu Bhaker scored bronze with a score of 221.7.

The 22-year-old from Haryana made history by winning an Olympic Bronze medal in Paris on Sunday, July 28 as the first Indian female shooter to win a medal at the Games, getting third place in the women’s 10m air pistol final at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre, reported India Today.

This made her join the esteemed ranks of individuals like Indian shooters such as AbhinavBindra, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Vijay Kumar, and GaganNarang, who have also won Olympic medals in shooting, the report said.

“Winning this medal is a dream come true, not just for me but for everyone who has supported me. I am deeply grateful to the NRAI, SAI, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Coach Jaspal Rana sir, Haryana government and OGQ. I dedicate this victory to my country for their incredible support and love.” said Manu writing on X, formerly known as Twitter.
