India is poised to commence its Paris Olympics journey on Thursday, with veteran archers Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai spearheading the team in the ranking rounds at Les Invalides. The Indian contingent, consisting of six archers, will compete in all five medal events, marking the nation’s first full-team participation since the London 2012 Olympics.
As reported by The Times of India, “the ranking will also decide entries for the mixed team competition, where only the top 16 pairs will qualify for the next stage. Each country’s seeding in the mixed team event will be based on the combined top scores from one male and one female archer.”
Despite their rich history and numerous international accolades, Indian archers have yet to win an Olympic medal. The archery competition at Paris 2024 will commence with the individual ranking rounds on July 25, a day before the Opening Ceremony, and continue with the subsequent stages from July 28 to August 4 at Les Invalides.
