In a significant development, NSA chief Ajit Doval to visit Russia following a telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 27. Sources revealed to North News that Doval’s visit aims to explore the possibility of peace between Russia and Ukraine, especially in light of Modi’s recent visit to Kyiv.
During their discussion last month, Modi and Putin addressed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Indian Prime Minister had shared insights from his visit to Ukraine and stressed the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and active engagement among stakeholders to achieve a lasting peace. Both leaders agreed to maintain regular contact.
Modi also reflected on his recent trip to Russia, where he attended the 22nd India-Russia Bilateral Summit. The two leaders reviewed progress on bilateral issues and discussed ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Russia. They exchanged perspectives on regional and global matters of mutual interest.
Following his Ukraine visit, Modi had telephonic conversation with U.S. President Joe Biden on the situation in Ukraine. They also discussed the situation in Bangladesh, emphasizing the need to restore normalcy and ensure the safety of Hindus there. Modi expressed his appreciation for President Biden’s commitment to the India-U.S. strategic partnership, rooted in shared values like democracy and the rule of law.
The two leaders reviewed progress in India-U.S. relations and exchanged views on several global issues. Modi reiterated India’s position in favor of diplomacy and dialogue to achieve peace in Ukraine. They also voiced concern over the situation in Bangladesh and stressed the need for the protection of minorities, particularly Hindus.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in multilateral forums, including the Quad, and agreed to stay in touch.
