Jammu, September 6
Home Minister Amit Shah firmly ruled out the restoration of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, during a press conference on Friday. He emphasized that Article 370 has now become a part of history and will not be reinstated. While releasing the manifesto for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Shah highlighted the period when, under Article 370, governments often bowed to the demands of separatists and groups like the Hurriyat. He stated that both Article 370 and 35-A, which allowed the J&K legislature to define permanent residents and their privileges, are no longer part of the Constitution.
The National Conference, in alliance with Congress, has pledged to restore Article 370 in its manifesto, but Amit Shah criticized this stance. He also questioned the moral values of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his party’s alliance with the National Conference, urging people to vote for BJP to ensure continued good governance.
Shah reiterated that the BJP’s Sankalp Patra for Jammu and Kashmir reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming the region. The manifesto outlines 25 key resolutions aimed at eliminating terrorism, empowering women, generating employment for the youth, and promoting transparency in government processes. It also promises support for students and marginalized communities, alongside boosting key sectors like trade, tourism, health, and agriculture.
